Skills and knowledge for 4th grade:
The math education in the 4th grade of primary school is aimed at mastering basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to the study of arithmetic and geometric concepts, as well as developing modern key competencies for the student.
The math curriculum for the 4th grade builds upon the content from the 3rd grade and creates the foundation for using the possibilities of mathematics to develop students' logical and spatial thinking.
It includes educational content from the following areas of mathematical competence: "Numbers," "Geometric Shapes and Solids," "Measurement," and "Modeling," along with related knowledge.
Skills and knowledge for 5th grade:
- Recognizes the basic plane geometric figures: triangle and quadrilateral; knows their elements, types, some of their properties and characteristics, and is able to apply them;
- Compares fractions and performs addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with them; rounds decimal fractions to a given precision;
- Applies the formulas for perimeter and area of basic plane figures: triangle and quadrilateral;
- Knows the relationships between multiples and submultiples of measurement units and is able to convert from one unit to another;
- Applies the formulas for surface area and volume of a cube and a rectangular prism;
- Interprets and analyzes information presented in text, graphs, tables, or diagrams.
Skills and knowledge for 6th grade:
- Can perform exponentiation and solve linear equations;
- Knows the basic plane geometric shapes: regular polygon, circle, and disk, along with their elements and properties;
- Knows the right prism, regular pyramid, right circular cylinder, and right circular cone, along with their elements and developments;
- Applies the formulas for perimeter and area;
- Knows direct and inverse proportionality and is able to apply them in practical problems;
- Understands at a concrete level the meaning of logical connectives "and," "or," "if... then...," the negation "not," and the relations "implies" and "equivalence.".
Skills and knowledge for 7th grade:
- Performs operations with algebraic expressions, applies identity transformations to them, and calculates the value of an expression;
- Solves linear and modular equations;
- Applies the criteria for congruence of triangles and uses the relationships between sides and angles in a triangle;
- Constructs geometric objects described in the basic construction tasks and knows the concept of a parallelogram, its types, and properties;
- Understands the meaning of the terms definition, axiom, theorem, and distinguishes the hypothesis from the conclusion of a theorem;
- Knows the method of proving a statement by assuming the opposite;
- Uses data sets to answer questions and solve problems in circle and bar graphs;
- Models with linear equations or with equations that can be reduced to linear ones.
Goals of NEA in 10th grade:
- Diagnosis of the individual progress and educational needs of 10th-grade students;
- Мonitoring of the educational process;
- Determining the degree of achievement of specific expected learning outcomes in mathematics;
- Measuring the degree of achievement of specific competencies related to mathematics and mathematical literacy acquired during the first stage of high school.
At MathsPlus, we believe that participating in math competitions develops students' logical thinking, creativity, and confidence. That’s why we offer specialized preparation for the most popular competitions in Bulgaria.
